This is a bit of an ironic post since I am primarily a weight-loss blog, but I’ve always believed in having a little treat everyday to keep the cravings away.
Anyway… Jeni’s “Splendid” Ice Creams definitely earned its name. I had tried a few flavors I randomly picked up in the store (Pineapple Upsidedown Cake, Brambleberry Crisp, and Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam), but was never able to find many of their vast amounts of flavors.
I’ve been on a bit of a spending spree lately (to say the least), and decided I would order them online. I ordered all of the ones I had tried before because I loved them, but I also ordered some new flavors to try.
They come packed in dry ice and, I must say, a very large box that says, “This side up.”
The flavors I got:
- Brambleberry Crisp
- Banana Cream Pudding
- Powdered Jelly Donut
- Pineapple Upside Down Cake
- Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam
- Blackout Chocolate Cake
- Brandied Banana Brûlée
- Honey Vanilla Bean
- Boozy Eggnog
- Merry Berry
It’s easier to say the ones I didn’t like. I loved most of them but the Blackout Chocolate cake was just too dark for me. I’m not all that big of a chocolate person. I like certain chocolate things like cake but I’ll never sit there and eat a bar of chocolate.
I also didn’t really love the Brandied Banana Brûlée. The banana ice cream was good, but the brûlée part tasted burnt to me, and I hate that on a creme brûlée too.
The last one I didn’t like was the Boozy Eggnog. This was shocking to me because I love eggnog, but the whiskey taste in it was way too strong for my taste. I actually threw this flavor out with only a few spoonfuls taken out of it. So wasteful, but I wasn’t going to just let it take up space in my freezer while acquiring freezer burn when no one was going to eat it.
Now for some honorable mentions:
The Honey Vanilla Bean was my favorite. It seems basic, but I love a good vanilla bean ice cream and Jeni’s did a great job with it. Especially by adding the honey.
The Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam was another favorite of mine. It took a lot for me not to eat the whole container in one sitting. (I am on a diet remember).
And to round it out with a third place, I’ll go with Merry Berry. This was a very different taste. It was very tart, but I loved it and it was a nice compliment to all of the very sweet ice creams.
I already have another order coming (oopsies…bad for my diet). I went a little more adventurous this time.
- Wildberry Lavender
- Strawberry Buttermilk
- High Five Candy Bar
- Goat Cheese with Red Cherries (I love love love goat cheese and fruit, so I’m really excited to try this one.)
- Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks
- Genmaicha & Marshmallows
- Honey Vanilla Bean x2
I’m excited to try these flavors and to make another review. I also placed an order for Van Leeuwen Ice Cream (I know, I know, naughty). So, I’ll probably make a review once those come as well.
Have you tried any of these? Which was your favorite and least favorite? Also…does anyone have any vanilla bean ice cream recommendations? I’ve been obsessed with it lately. (I swear I’m not a boring vanilla person. I think you should be able to tell that from the excitement over the Goat Cheese with Red Cherries flavor).
What’s your go-to treat? Remember- even on a diet, you need to allow yourself a little treat.
