For me, the biggest red flag within a relationship is not being loyal. For example: when someone stays quiet or even plays devils advocate instead of defending you. If you’re my friend, I expect you to always be on my side publicly, but then you can always talk to me privately if need be.
I’m always the one to defend friends publicly even if I don’t agree with them. If I don’t agree with them, I’ll tell them in private.
This is a sign of loyalty for me, and if you’re not coming to my defense, then you’re not being a good friend. And not being a good friend in that sort of situation raises all sorts of red flags about the person and their friendship.
